“More than two years have passed now since Fundación Corporación Valora was set up. All those who have taken part in this solidarity project can proudly say that their commitment is now bearing fruit in countries like Guatemala, Bolivia, and India.
Showing solidarity and volunteering has not been easy; it has required an extraordinary effort, and also a firm desire to build a better world. But when all is said and done, the most important thing is that all of those who make up Valora, by way of the different companies in the group, accomplish what is so easy to say but, at the same time, so difficult to do: behave responsibly towards society and do our part to improve the standard of living (health, food, education, etc.) in the most disadvantaged communities.
Eight months ago I had the chance to witness the reality with my own eyes, and visit the children that we sponsor in Guatemala through the work between the foundation and the NGO, World Vision. They live in the village of San Marcos, close to the border of Mexico, where extreme poverty coexists alongside the luxuries generated by the trade of narcotics. The truth is I cannot describe what I saw there. What was the most important thing? To finally have been able to meet the children we sponsor.
Joy was mixed with sadness, hope with uneasiness... Seeing what was going on there made me realize our everyday worries are absolute nonsense. Things that we take for granted and can always be sure of, such as a healthy diet, the right to education, and health care, are major aims that are still yet to be accomplished there.
We prepare a backpack with pens, pencils, books, biscuits, chocolate, candies, fruit, clothing, and, of course, toys for every one of the children we sponsor. You should have seen their faces and how happy they were … In spite of that, nothing that you can bring for them seems to be enough, particularly when you see there are many more children who are not being sponsored and have not had the same good fortune. The truth is it breaks your heart to see it.
This is just one example, but it is enough to know that we have a duty to support inititiatives like this in countries where there are virtually no opportunities. I would like to urge you all, as President of the Foundation, to participate, helping to build a better future for those in need.”
